Job Description

The Computer Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling computer systems, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role involves troubleshooting issues, performing regular system checks, and supporting various IT functions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has strong technical skills, and is capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Monitoring and Maintenance:
    • Monitor and control computer systems, networks, and related equipment.
    • Perform routine system checks and maintenance to ensure the smooth operation of all systems.
    • Identify and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
    • Report and escalate issues as necessary to IT support teams.
  • Data Processing:
    • Execute data processing tasks, including data entry, processing, and output generation.
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data being processed and stored.
    • Perform backups and ensure data security.
  • Job Scheduling and Execution:
    • Schedule and run jobs on the mainframe, servers, and other systems.
    • Monitor job queues and ensure that all scheduled jobs are completed on time.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve job failures, rerun jobs as necessary.
  • System Updates and Upgrades:
    • Assist in installing and updating software, firmware, and hardware.
    • Apply patches and updates to systems as directed by IT management.
    • Maintain accurate records of updates, upgrades, and system changes.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain logs and documentation related to system operations, performance, and incidents.
    • Generate and submit regular reports on system performance, job completion, and issues encountered.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining operational procedures.
  • Support and Training:
    • Provide support to other departments for system-related inquiries and issues.
    • Assist in training staff on basic system operations and usage.
    • Work closely with IT support teams to resolve complex issues and implement new systems.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) and computer hardware.
    • Experience with mainframes, servers, and other enterprise-level systems is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
    • Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Basic knowledge of networking, data storage, and backup procedures.
