Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting standards. This role requires a high level of accuracy, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General Ledger Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  2. Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP or other applicable standards.
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  3. Account Reconciliation:
    • Perform regular reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
    • Resolve any discrepancies or issues identified during reconciliations.
  4. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget.
    • Provide financial forecasts and variance analysis to support management decision-making.
  5. Audit and Compliance:
    • Coordinate and support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting regulations and internal controls.
  6. Tax Preparation and Filing:
    • Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, including sales tax, income tax, and other statutory filings.
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax regulations and ensure compliance.
  7. Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and implement best practices.
    • Support the implementation of new accounting software or systems as needed.
  8. Mentoring and Leadership:
    • Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
    • Assist in training new employees and developing the skills of the accounting team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
    • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
